LAKE DALLAS – Lake Dallas Public Library in Lake Dallas is joining forces with other libraries in the U.S. and Canada to celebrate the inaugural Indie Author Day by hosting a book-signing event Saturday for area authors. Authors will sign books noon to 3 p.m.

Visitors will meet authors who published without the assistance of the industry’s big publishing houses. Lake Dallas’ library is at 302 S. Shady Shores Road.

“The book publishing community is full of wonderful, talented authors who aren’t represented by big publishing houses,” said Tina Hager, assistant librarian at the library in Lake Dallas and the new president of Denton-based North Texas Book Festival. “This is a chance to introduce a few of those authors to a larger audience.”

Lake Dallas’ library is one of nearly 300 libraries across the U.S. and Canada to participate in Indie Author Day. It’s one of two Denton County libraries slated to participate as of Oct. 2, according to the Indie Author Day website indieauthorday.com; the other is Betty Foster Public Library in Ponder.

The signing schedule is:

• Noon to 3 p.m.   Joe Sambataro of Carrollton, author of “Painting Without Numbers”
• 12:30-1:30 p.m. James N. Patrick Sr. of Denton, co-author of “Blood Profit$”
• 1-3 p.m.             David R. Hardiman of Arlington, author of “Bailey’s Remarkable Plan”
